Located on Corso Il Rossellino, in the very center of magic Pienza, less than 100 metres from the central square with its magnificent cathedral and the splendid Palazzo Piccolomini, the Antica Locanda offers unique and gracious accommodation for discerning visitors.
The Antica Locanda is located in a 15th century palazzo that was the site of a Papal Secretariat. Newly renovated, the Antica Locanda has been equipped with modern facilities while fully respecting its antique structures and charm. The rooms, with original beamed ceilings, are spacious and decorated with antique Tuscan furnishings.
The atmosphere is refined and relaxing. Some of the rooms have breathtaking views of the Val d'Orcia, the splendid valley unfolding below Pienza, while others overlook the charming historic centre of Pienza.
In all, the Antica Locanda offers for rent 4 exclusive rooms with private bathrooms and 2 mini-apartments composed of bedroom, bathroom and fully furnished separate kitchen-dining area. All rooms have independent heating systems and TV (2 in the mini-apartments). Each of the rooms has a name.
La Piazzetta
This spacious room overlooks the historic Corso above a lovely little square where in the spring and summer visitors can enjoy outside dining in one of the excellent trattorias of Pienza.
The room is decorated with furnishings of the 1930s, including marble covered night tables and dresser. The double bed, made of wrought iron, is decorated with hand-painted flowers.
There is also a 3-place sofa that can be transformed into a single bed. The large bathroom, completely redone, is all in white and rose coloured tile, with shower and heated towel rack. TV in bedroom.
Pienza
This spacious room overlooks a private court in the ancient part of Pienza. It is decorated with antique Tuscan furniture, including a splendid 18th century dresser. The wrought iron double bed has a hand-painted floral motif on the headboard. The room also includes a 3-place sofa that can be transformed into a single bed.
The bathroom which is very spacious (about 3 metres by 4 metres) has been completely redone in white and rose tile, with shower and heated towel rack. TV in bedroom.
La Soffitta
This is a smaller room under the eves of the top floor of the Palazzo. It has massive beams crossing the ceiling that slopes rapidly downwards to give the room its distinctive character.
A small window overlooks the picturesque roofs of Pienza. The double bed in golden coloured metal has hand painted flowers on the headboard.
The room is decorated with an antique Tuscan closet, oak chairs and night table with marble covering. The bathroom with shower has been completely redone in white and rose tiles. TV in bedroom.
Monticchiello
This room gets its name from the view of the neighbouring hill town visible from its window that overlooks the roofs of Pienza and the magnificent rolling countryside and valleys of Tuscany. This room is located on the top floor of the Palazzo and has massive beams that give it a particularly inviting atmosphere. The room includes 2 large sofas that can be transformed into single beds. The décor of the room is antique. The bathroom with shower has been completely redone in white and rose tile. TV in bedroom.
Il Rossellino
This lovely mini-apartment overlooks the historic Corso. The bedroom is decorated with 18th century massive oak furniture. In addition to the double bed, there is also a sofa that can be transformed into a single bed.
The kitchen has been newly equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator and all plates, glasses, cutlery etc for 4 persons. The kitchen also has a small traditionally furnished dining area, including an antique Tuscan "amadia", formerly used to store bread. The kitchen includes a 3-place sofa that can also be transformed if necessary into a single bed.
The bathroom, newly redone, is all in white and rose coloured tiles, with shower and heated towel rack. TV in both kitchen and bedroom.
Val d'Orcia
This mini-apartment has a unique breath-taking view of the valley surrounding Pienza, both from the bedroom as well as from the kitchen. For miles, as far as one's sight extends, it is possible admire one of the most beautiful and suggestive views in the area.
The apartment is composed of a very large room which is divided by a hand made antique railing (about 1 metre high) into a sleeping and living room area. A large fireplace with an inscription dated "1834" dominates the room. The double bed is antique, carved from massive oak, as is the large closet.
In the living room section, the sofa can be transformed into a double bed. The kitchen is newly equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator and all plates, glasses, cutlery etc for 4 persons.
The kitchen has an antique table and Tuscan chairs for informal dining. There is a TV in the kitchen and a TV in the living room area. The large bathroom, with shower, has been completely redone in white and rose coloured tiles, and has a heated towel rack.
